New drape and fixed kitten
Kanoko turned 6 months old two weeks ago, and is at the veterinarian today, getting neutered and being given an ID tattoo in his ear. (Why you should spay or neuter your pet, et en français, pourquoi faire stériliser son animal.) I weighed him while at the vet’s: 4.5 kilos/10 pounds! That’s a healthy weight for a fully adult cat — normal-sized kittens weigh 3kg/6.5 pounds at 6 months old.
I took the opportunity of a mischief-free apartment to put up the curtain wire over my bedroom storage nook and hang a drape (“before” photo here). The difficulty of this nook is that it’s 2 meters wide, while none of the stores I checked had drapes/curtains wider than 1m60. So I hung a drape sideways! It’s not ideal, but with the tall bed frame bringing things together visually, it works well enough. It will probably look much better once I’ve repainted my bedroom a darkish grey. After considering several color ideas over the last few months, I realized that every time I’d seen a grey room, I’d utterly loved it. It won’t be done for a few months though, since budget priority goes to repairing my bathroom, which will be expensive. It is nice to no longer see the boxes and suitcases, in any case.

My roommate’s cat is about 12.5 pounds now at…8 months I believe? Gotta get him fat before the hamsters eat him :)

You used my curtain idea, yay! It looks nice.
I love the look of that grey room with the turquoise accents, the two colors are very soothing together. I hope you can make your design dreams come true soon!

If your cat is anything like mine, be prepared to have your drapes come down on your head when he tries to scramble up with his claws! Your kitten is still going to be fixed but your drapes won’t be anymore ;-)
I don’t know what is the deal with cats and gently swinging drapes – but it seems to drive them into a perfect frenzy!
And the grey bedroom idea sounds like it’ll work … Hmm … let me try to visualize it … Yeeees … it ought to work better than the current color scheme and maybe bring out the wooden floors(?) better ?

Ironic how you get new drapes and are having your cat fixed simultaneously.
I know it may sound silly on paper, but continuing that drape around the wall, and possibly putting a piece of wall art that can be “exposed” by them may bring balance to that room. I think it’s much too dark right now. What kind of lighting is in the rest of the room?

I’m afraid don’t follow re: putting up the drape and having kitty fixed…? (I *might* get it if I had a female cat, but he’s a boy, neutering is for males.)
The room is indeed dark, because it’s in the basement half of my place (the other half is ground level, my building being on a slope). In winter there’s not enough light in the bedroom from the small window above to help fill it out with the flash in photographs — it looks better in reality, as it is well-lit.
