Doesn't sound like fun! It seems that you couldn't catch any breaks: the pipe burst, the drunk plumber, the plumber who only works weekdays! Good luck with the apartment!

We once came home from a rare vacation to find no water and had to crawl around in our pump and water heater room which is under the floor. We built this place and handle most repairs so anything that happens is our fault.
Hope you get your water back soon. It's no fun. We have a brook out back we can get water from if we have too but my husband is a very capable fix it guy. But with two large buildings there is a lot to keep up with.

Ouch, water heater failure is never fun! That's one reason I got one of these:
http://www.formaster.com.pl/english/dafi.htm
I'm going to replace my tank heater with that as soon as I have the funds. No more tank to burst... (You do have to be careful about the kilowattage of those, however, since they do pull a lot of power. In other words don't get one that's more than your electrical subscription can handle, which varies.)

We are still without water. Since it's the building's main line, and made of copper, it won't be an easy repair. We preferred to wait a day to have the plumber who knows our building inside and out do it, rather than get an emergency guy who'd charge god-knows-what and quite possibly do a bad job. (People who work weekends in France are not always top-quailty; it's a real crapshoot.)

It's amazing that problems like this keep always popping up... I just moved into my new apartment and my water heater basically blew up (one of those old drum types) and there was water leaking everywhere. It happened exactly the day I had to work till late. I fully understand your concern in saving everything around and finding a solution as soon as possible. Are you still without water? I mean, did someone managed to isolate the leak and restore water to the building? I hope everything will be fixed and done in no time.
