Thank you so much for this wonderful explanation! You are so right, I was taught in school that vous is a group of people!! So when I was speaking with a gentleman that is French, I said good night to him and he replied with 'et vous aussi'.....I was baffled because he's French and I thought he should know better. Makes sense now though. Now if only I can get him to start using 'tu'!!! :o)

Anna,

Thank you for this fabulous way to remember vous et tu. I still find myself mistakenly addressing children as "vous" when I forget (and they give me interesting stares), but now, I think I'll manage to remember. I spent most of last year here in the San Francisco Bay Area studying French with a remarkable tutor. I'll be sending her this post!

I discovered your blog around the time (I think) that you (respectful) returned to blogging after your break up. I have always been so admiring of all that you accomplished, especially the home improvements, even the thought of which strike terror into my heart. (It goes without saying that I admire the way in which you've managed to live in France.) When your blog went into hiatus I was sad. I'm glad I checked back to discover you're back, to meet Gray and to continue to read about K. Glad you survived H1N1, too.

Best regards,

Sasho

Yeah, sorry, A. I'm not an expat, B. I'm a person. (Look, I'm about as feminist as they come, but I really dislike "women-only" sites that don't have any basis in a real issue. It needlessly furthers the assumption that men and women are fundamentally different, when we're not.)
